The park created for preserving the unique nature of Borjomi-Kharagauli area is the part of the Lesser Caucasus and is one of the best places in Georgia for organizing tours for nature-lovers.
The history of the reserve starts in the 19th century when the brother of ruling Russian Emperor Mikhail Romanov impressed with the beauty of this gorge made his residence here. Nowadays it is one of the largest parks in Europe (76 000 hectares) and is included in the list of PAN Parks.
Not only the reserve itself but also its nearby territory is outstanding with its rare beauty. There are various rare species of Kolkhis coniferous and broad-leaved trees on the slopes of the mountains together with the diverse fauna. This is the place of many mineral water springs famous for their curing features.
This tour comprises of walking in a national park as well as in nearby area of a ski resort Bakuriani. This will enable you to enjoy the breathtaking views of this region.

Trekking in Lesser Caucasus

Day 1: Depart for Tbilisi
Day 2: Tbilisi
Early in the morning arrive in Tbilisi, meet in the airport and transfer to a hotel. After breakfast we will have the sightseeing tour of Old and New districts of Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi
Day 3: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Uplistsikhe – Bakuriani
In the morning we will visit the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta and afterwards drive to the town of Gori – birthplace of Stalin. Visit Uplistsikhe cave town (1st millennium BC) which preserves various interesting religious and household buildings from pagan and early Christian period. Then drive up to Bakuriani (1800m). Next 3 overnights in Bakuriani
Day 4: Bakuriani – Mt. Kokhta – Village Mitarbi – Bakuriani
Today we will have our first trekking day.
We walk up to the amazing flower-covered Mt. Kokhta (2100 m). Being on the top we will enjoy the stunning beauty of the Caucasus mountains and its highest peaks: Elbrus, Shkhara, Ushba and Kazbegi. Later we walk down to the village of Mitarbi and then come back to Bakuriani.
Walking time: 5-6 hrs. Up & down: 400 m
Day 5: Bakuriani – Tskhrastkaro Pass – Bakuriani
Tskhrastkaro Pass (2455m) which is situated 12 km away from Bakuriani is one of the highest places in the Lesser Caucasus range. In the morning we will drive up to Tskhrastkaro Pass and from here the breathtaking views on Bakuriani and its surrounding coniferous forest turn up to the travellers. Walking over the fascinating hills and meadows finally brings us down in Bakuriani.
Walking time: 5-6 hrs. Up & down: 700m
Day 6-8: Bakuriani – Borjomi-Kharagauli park – Kharagauli – Tbilisi
In the morning we will drive to Borjomi (800m) and here we start an unforgettable 2,5 - day trekking in Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. Mountain track basically goes through the forest with magnificent nature. Maximum altitude 2100m (Mt. Lomismta). Overnight in tourist shelters. We finish trekking at the town of Kharagauli and then depart for Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
